Irvine Mayor Announces Endorsement of Kelly Ernby for Assembly

Mayor of the largest city in California’s 74th Assembly District endorses Kelly Ernby for Assembly

(Irvine, CA) – Irvine Mayor Christina Shea today announced her endorsement of Kelly Ernby for State Assembly.

“As Mayor of Irvine, the safest city in the nation, I enthusiastically endorse Deputy District Attorney Kelly Ernby to be the next 74th Assemblywoman,” said Irvine Mayor Christina Shea. “I believe she is exactly the fresh face we need. Kelly not only reflects the values of the District, but she will also make sure the middle class is represented.”

Mayor Shea was first elected to the Irvine City Council in 1992. In 2017, and then again in 2019, she was chosen to be the City’s Mayor Pro Tem. With the election of Mayor Don Wagner to an Orange County Supervisor seat, Christina became Mayor of Irvine in April 2019. She has been named one of Orange County’s “Leaders of the Year” by the California Women’s Leadership Association and featured as one of the “Most Influential Women in Orange County” by the Orange County Metro Magazine.

“I am honored to accept this endorsement and vote of confidence from Irvine Mayor Christina Shea,” said Kelly Ernby. “As your Assemblywoman, I will fight against the rising cost of living in our state by advancing policies that reduce barriers to business and protect California’s hardworking taxpayers.”

Kelly Ernby is a pro-business, pro-taxpayer, political outsider with over 16 years of legal experience, including more than seven as a local prosecutor. As a deputy district attorney, Ernby has litigated some of the most serious and complex cases in the areas of the environment, consumer protection, labor violations, and fraud. Ernby is a California native, the daughter of two enlisted members of the U.S. Navy and the sister to a Marine. Ernby now resides in Huntington Beach with her husband.

The 74th district encompasses the beach towns of Huntington, Newport, and Laguna as well as Costa Mesa, Laguna Woods, and Irvine. Over a quarter of the district’s registered voters live in Irvine. Republicans have a 4% voter registration advantage in the district (35% Rep, 31% Dem, 30% NPP).

Momentum continues to grow behind Kelly Ernby’s campaign for the 74th Assembly District. The campaign has several upcoming fundraising events scheduled in Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach, and Irvine. Details are expected to be announced this week.
